Objective

I had the opportunity to develop a series of immersive 4K touchscreen learning modules for Toyota’s new hire training program at their upcoming Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina (TBMNC) facility. The objective was to deliver an engaging and comprehensive onboarding experience for new employees, providing critical safety and operational training in an interactive format.

The modules aimed to familiarize new hires with the essential safety protocols and procedures they would need to adhere to at TBMNC, promoting a culture of safety and responsibility from day one. The training content spanned essential safety information, ergonomics, mobile equipment safety, and lithium-ion battery handling, all tailored to meet the specific needs of this advanced battery production facility.

Ergonomics: Robot Guide, Idle Animation
Mobile Equipment Safety: Game animations

Solution

The solution was designed and developed with meticulous attention to both visual appeal and interactivity. Using Photoshop for detailed visual elements, Blender for 3D modeling, and Unity for development, I crafted four standalone 4K modules that were installed on high-definition touchscreen displays integrated with mini PCs. Each module provided a unique, interactive learning experience:

  1. Welcome & Safety Overview – This introductory module acquainted new hires with the facility’s basic safety principles and practices, highlighting Toyota’s commitment to a safe and productive work environment.
  2. Ergonomics Training – Emphasizing the importance of safe physical practices in an industrial setting, this module provided guidelines on optimal posture and safe lifting techniques to reduce the risk of injury.
  3. Mobile Equipment Safety – Focusing on the operational safety requirements for working around moving machinery, this module helped workers navigate the facility safely around mobile equipment.
  4. Lithium-Ion Battery Safety – Critical to the plant’s focus, this module educated employees on the specialized safety protocols for handling and managing lithium-ion batteries, an essential part of Toyota’s push toward electrification.
